ponza!!
I am so longing to return here. Ponza is the inhabited volcanic island in a little cluster of beautifully sculptured rocks, uninhabited (by law), in the middle of the sea, somewhere off Italy. Shot from a boat trip with a group of mostly Italian friends. July, 2007, I think.

not a pool day
@ my parents' active adult community, Palm Beach County, Florida. Well, it was a pool day for me: every day is a pool day, long as there aren't thunderstorms.

night fishing with my man
My husband found a great little 'lake' in my parents' active adult retirement community. Not the one their 'Florida room' looks out on: the fish there are too smart. This one is in a secret location. He had this wild idea fishing would work better at night, but on this particular night, the air was cold, and perhaps they were sleeping. Or frozen.

at cousin cliff & jan's pool, before it rained
I love swimming in their pool, in a gated retirement community near my parents' place. Last time I went, it rained, too, and swimming in the warm pool with huge drops coming down was just magic.
Cliff is my father's cousin, but more than that: they were like brothers. And his wife Jan is my mom's good friend. They are the most wonderful couple.

say cheese
Being in South Beach brought back such strong memories of childhood. I remember a magic day at the Deauville Hotel. The Beatles had just come to America and my parents' friends lived there, and we spent the day at the pool at the Deauville because a friend or colleague of my dad's was staying there. In the suite the Beatles had just vacated, before him. He was dealing with troops of girls knocking on the door, in floods of tears, paying homage. Kissing the walls.. pretty mad behaviour.

bit surreal
And yet, real. My dad took a similar shot on the same beach in the 60s, I will find it and show to you. South Beach, Miami. January 2010.

coral gables: venetian pools
I thought I'd dreamt this place, but found colour slides that my dad took of a mythical place in my past: Venetian Pools, in Coral Gables, Florida. Since we're in Florida now, I felt it only fitting to show you my wonderful father's photos.
It seems almost impossible, but when I googled Venetian Pools, it still exists! It's a real place. As a child, my memories of it are as near to heaven as one could get on this earth.
