My mother taught me how to make these 'dribble castles' when I was a little girl. I made this one on my birthday this year, 13 September, on one glorious last summery Sunday, on a Bournemouth beach. To me, this is more of a birthday cake than a real cake, and all the more poignantly beautiful because it will only last til the next wave whisks it away.

I love this image, when I was a girl I spent my time in the beach doing this sort of constructions!
