morningside crescent
At the little park across from Greater London House.
Sometimes - like this particular flower, on this particular day - it hits me to my heart, how fleeting life is. I shot this on the first day of June, 2010, and as I post this, this particular flower, I'm guessing, no longer exists. It's just some decay. It is gone.

sea
Oh, goodness, haven't posted on my sweet blog for way too long. I promise you, dear little blog, not to neglect you, and go back and fill in May and the start of June.
Meanwhile: beach, somewhere in the British Virgin Islands. February 2009.

wistful
Caught all of these walking home from the cinema with my husband. Just a house around the corner, on Wetherby Gardens. I love spring in London, it can be heartbreakingly beautiful. Poignant. Wistful.

may day
Love the whole idea of May Day. They think it goes back to Roman times, and Flora, the Goddess of Flowers, but I bet it's earlier than that. I bet it goes back to the beginning of time.
It's May! It's May. The lusty month of May. Time for celebration: we survived the winter. I just pray the wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico survive the spring, and clever minds can work out a way to stem the oil spill.
Shot in Hyde Park, London. April 2010.

reflections
I've been so torn about how to resume this blog: whether to go back and post (or is it pre?) date the photos to fill in for all the days I've missed? I suppose I can: I've got more than enough summer photos to fill many days of many years. But instead, I'm back to the commitment I made: a photo of a summery image, every day, all year round.
Today: one of the pools at my parents' retirement community in Florida. I love it there. It's just my mom now - my dad died seven years ago - but at a moment like this, swimming alone in the pool closest to their home - just steps away, in fact - that late afternoon, almost evening light, that feeling that time is suspended and all is well in the world.. well, one thing is for sure: I wasn't alone.

bullfight
Seville. Quite possibly September, 2001. It might have been right around the time of 9/11: we were in Spain at the time. I do know it was quite traumatic, and shot on a very hot, meltingly hot day.

why blue
Dedicated to our lovely step grandmother, Martha, who asked that question when we had our childhood home carpeted wall to wall with a lovely fine quality 100% wool carpet, as was the fashion, in almost exactly this colour. The question became an expression in our family, and summed up all that was unanswerable, unfathomable, and zen like.

ponza!!
I am so longing to return here. Ponza is the inhabited volcanic island in a little cluster of beautifully sculptured rocks, uninhabited (by law), in the middle of the sea, somewhere off Italy. Shot from a boat trip with a group of mostly Italian friends. July, 2007, I think.

not a pool day
@ my parents' active adult community, Palm Beach County, Florida. Well, it was a pool day for me: every day is a pool day, long as there aren't thunderstorms.

night fishing with my man
My husband found a great little 'lake' in my parents' active adult retirement community. Not the one their 'Florida room' looks out on: the fish there are too smart. This one is in a secret location. He had this wild idea fishing would work better at night, but on this particular night, the air was cold, and perhaps they were sleeping. Or frozen.

at cousin cliff & jan's pool, before it rained
I love swimming in their pool, in a gated retirement community near my parents' place. Last time I went, it rained, too, and swimming in the warm pool with huge drops coming down was just magic.
Cliff is my father's cousin, but more than that: they were like brothers. And his wife Jan is my mom's good friend. They are the most wonderful couple.
