why blue

Dedicated to our lovely step grandmother, Martha, who asked that question when we had our childhood home carpeted wall to wall with a lovely fine quality 100% wool carpet, as was the fashion, in almost exactly this colour. The question became an expression in our family, and summed up all that was unanswerable, unfathomable, and zen like.

Hydrangea, Victoria & Albert Museum courtyard. As before. August 2010

  1. why blue? because it was the thing to do at the time (my mom's bedroom was once decorated in blue shag carpet, blue bedding, blue print toile wallpaper....ghastly.) but right- it's zen, mysterious, calming.
lovely image- the close-up scale is powerful yet soothing.
